Magdalena - Congratulations! I imagine that feels wonderful and strange at the same time. You've put in a lot of hard work! So a lot of your growth came from one essay and another two notes going viral? I never have figured out the Substack algorithm.

I keep trying though! Again - I've seen you put in the work.

Dear Bronce: Thank you, and you named it exactly: wonderful and strange at once. The viral essays and the two notes absolutely opened the door, there is no pretending otherwise, a big spike brings a wave of new eyes all at once. But the honest part is that the spike only mattered because of the quiet months before it, the daily writing nobody clapped for, so that when the wave came there was a body of work and a real voice waiting for it.

As for the algorithm, I have given up trying to crack it and just kept showing up, which is annoyingly the only thing that has reliably worked. You put in the work too, I have seen it, and that consistency is the part the algorithm can’t take back from you. Keep going.

Yes, having the work behind us makes a lot of sense right. And nobody can take that away and should the eyes become more - all the better. I will be keeping on that is for sure! Have a meeting with a publicist today to discuss just such matters.

And I love that you are an inspiration and a success story here :) Bc you have put in the hard work. Thank you!

Thank you - you are so kind! And I know that your book will be a bestseller - can't wait to read it! And once you are done with writing you can teach us all about writing and publishing! the world of publishing seems very terrifying (lol) for me! or maybe that's just my imposter syndrome talking! Keep going, I believe in you and can't wait to support your book!

Congratulations, and well deserved, you are so generous with your time, even for those of us who haven't committed yet. The replies you have taken the time to share have been thoughtful, insightful and often pointing in a direction that I hadn't thought of. I always find something thought provoking in each article I read and can feel myself getting closer to actually writing something myself on my own substack.

Thank you for the reminder to treat the creation of my own substack like a scientist gathering data. It truly is one big beautiful experiment.

The last two weeks have been so busy I could barely be on Substack until late evening. I showed up daily, tired but determined to do at least a little, even for 15 or 30 minutes. It was frustrating because I wanted to do more and I just couldn't. Your article reminds me that those two weeks was an experiment of what happens in busy times like that. What happens when I post late in the evening? What happens when I can barely show up but I still do? I have data now that I didn't before.

Congratulations on the success you found so far by showing up consistently alongside your day job!
